How To Sell Your Designer Bags Online

Have you thought about reselling your pre-owned designer handbags for cash but don’t know where to start? Keep reading. From experience, I’ve gained knowledge on the online options to sell your designer bags, and can share how to get the most money out of your used designer handbags with these tips and tricks!

Tips & Tricks To Make The Most Money Selling Your Used Designer Bags

1- KEEP THE DUSTER BAGS!

I repeat- KEEP those duster bags. And while you’re at it, save anything else that your designer came with like an authentication card, tags, etc. The price of your pre-owned bag will go UP when you can provide these often-discarded accouterments. Shoppers want to know a bag is authentic, so they can feel like they just purchased a pre-loved designer handbag for a great price with all the fixings that make it feel like buying a brand new bag. Be sure to include photos of the duster, tags, etc.- it will attract potential buyers, upping the chances of a speedy sale at a price you’ll be happy with.

2- BE SMART ABOUT WHO YOU INTERACT WITH

You paid a lot of money for your designer bag, so be sure to put in the research to get the best commission and avoid being scammed. If you get a strange comment on your listing, look into that account and check to see if they’ve had any recent sales or purchase activity. As for Poshmark, an indicator that it’s a scam account is if you go to their profile and click “about” it tells you how long they’ve been a “posher” for. If they just created their account, chances are they are fake, and interacting with them on the platform could harm your credibility and/or account security. Poshmark is really good at catching these accounts and filtering them out, but at times it does happen and you always want to be cautious.

3- TAKE GOOD PHOTOS!

Taking good quality pictures is key- the expert resellers I know usually take photos of items around 5-7 pm, right when the sun starts to set. This timing minimizes shadows/darkness from trees outside and allows you to get that perfect natural light- key to selling your pre-owned designer bag. Keeping it simple, meaning you don’t want too much going on in the photos- white backgrounds are ideal. Present the items accordingly for buyers to get an idea of the size, fit, and quality- Poshmark just came out with a new feature where you can include a video, so be sure to utilize this. If you own a mannequin, great, if not- no biggie, hanging your item or laying it on the floor is just as good. Take photos of the front, back, the bottom of the bag, the interior of the bag, designer tags, etc. the MORE you have, the better.

4- WRITE A SOLID DESCRIPTION

For the description of the product, provide shoppers with all the information on the item and be sure to include if it has ANY flaws- if you fail to mention this, your item can be sent back to you. Another pro tip- go grab your tape measure and take measurements of the strap drop, length, width, and depth. Save yourself time and energy and see if you’re able to find an online retailer that has it, you can then copy the description they provide.

Where should I sell my pre-owned designer bags online?

Here are a few sites we have had positive experiences using and feel confident recommending! There are so many options out there with new ones popping up all the time, so feel free to leave a comment sharing your personal favorite resale websites for reselling your designer items!

Fashionphile

Fashionphile provides upfront quotes meaning they buy the item from you outright- easy breezy. When you send the items for review, they tell you the price they plan to sell it for and how much you will receive, and then you can decide if you are okay with the proposed amount and proceed from there. Although some reviews mention you could make more money selling it yourself on other platforms, this is a low-effort option for those who don’t want to go through the hassle of selling it themselves. You can get an online quote by filling out a form or scheduling a virtual appointment. Once the items have been received you can get paid 2-4 days after your items arrive. Another option they have is “white glove pick up” which is an in-person appointment.

Poshmark

Should you sell your designer bags on Poshmark? From my experience, Poshmark is an easy option. A key to success on Poshmark is to create an in-depth description and provide good-quality photos. The moment your items begin to sell, it becomes addicting. You’ll want to sell everything you own- which, in some cases, isn’t necessarily a bad thing! What’s the catch, you might ask? Well, Poshmark takes 20% for all items sold over $15. But hey, you get the other 80%.

You can either send your items in and you’re provided with a free shipping label or schedule a free at-home pick-up by booking an appointment here. As far as the commission structure goes, you earn 50% for items listed between $146 - $195, 40% for items listed between $96 - $145, 30% for items listed between $51 - $95, and 20% for items listed between $1 - $50.
