DIY Valentine’s Day Photo Wall
While part of me holds fast to my conviction that Valentine’s Day is a cheesy Hallmark holiday and doesn’t require any over-the-top gifts or flowers or chocolates. another part of me likes the excuse to go all in on my favorite color combination (pink & red) and force my girls to take fun, whimsical photos I can print and frame forever and ever.
I saw this photo on Pinterest and decided to make it the inspo for my 2022 Valentine’s Day Photo Wall DIY- and the execution could not have been easier.
How To Make A DIY Valentine’s Day Photo Wall in 5 Minutes:
Yup, 5 minutes. (You can watch it all go down in this Instagram Reel, too!)
1- Bought a garland with pre-cut glitter hearts and took them off the ribbon (obv. you can cut out hearts from construction paper too and call it a day, but I wanted to get this done FAST!).
2- Took a tape measure and marked Goldie’s height on the wall with a piece of removable wall putty (leftover from Alexa’s sleepaway camp supply stash- won’t damage the walls, but still does a solid job keeping photos/paper/posters on the wall for short periods of time).
3- Arranged the hearts on the wall (adhering them with the putty) in a random arrangement so it looks like they are floating up to the sky.
4- Pulled pink and red heart sunglasses and a hot pink tutu from our costume storage bin (we have gotten great at saving these little holiday-specific accessories over the years and it’s so funny how often we end up using them now that they are so easy to find!)
5- Set up a ring light and tripod in just the right spot to frame the shot.
Then, I strategically set out Goldie’s Roller Rabbit pajamas so she put them on after her bath (Alexa has gotten our entire family addicted to Roller Rabbit pajamas, it is becoming a problem- but that is a story for another day)- and once she was all dressed, I called her up to the third floor and let her HAM IT UP.
The lighting wasn’t perfect, so I used one of my favorite editing apps for brightening still photos (B612 is the one I love for these sorts of photo moments) to adjust the photo until I got it to pop and…. DONE! All that is left for me to do is upload the photo into Shutterfly and create something fun with it to send to grandparents as a sentimental- and simple- Valentine’s Day gift!
Oh- and I somehow have to also convince Alexa to let me take her photo along the wall, too (obv. I will adjust the height of the hearts as needed since she is now almost my height!)- so any advice for getting a tween to actually cooperate with any request from her mom, please share! Seriously. Help a mama out here- because I am all out of ideas for that one :)
